It's not often I step in front of the camera to take photos of myself. However recently I braved up to take some shots. (Yes standing in the yard outside of my apartment with a tripod while neighbors looked at me thinking I was looney. lol) So here are some shots of what I got, the good, the bad and actually some of my favorites. I don't care for much skin smoothing and editing, because I feel like we need to live as ourselves and embrace who we are. The photos that look most like us are the photographs that our family will cherish most later on.
So, before you get descent photos like the one above (in my opinion), you'll need to set yourself up for success. Below are some tips to get you started.
5 Tips to taking self portraits
- Find a descent, fun background that won't be distracting.
- Use a remote for your camera or a self timer. (This can even work for phone shots)
- Make sure to get your focus right. This may mean taking several shots, so be patient!
- Work those angles! Try different poses, get closer, back away. Have fun with it!
- Take some detail shots, these always help in creating a story line for your images.
- When all else fails, hire a professional. (Haha)
Don't be afraid
to bring out your inner model!
